Steve Murphy has over 30 years of experience in leadership and team development, executive coaching, diversity, inclusion, cultural competence awareness and management, harassment and discrimination issues, performance management and optimization, organizational development, customer service, strategic planning facilitation, and training design and delivery. He has designed, developed, and facilitated hundreds of classes, seminars and workshops on a variety of topics in a range of industries.  Steve is known for his unique, dynamic and entertaining delivery and facilitation style, making each engagement a fun and memorable learning experience and placing him in high demand as a keynote speaker and trainer. His workshops consistently receive marks of “outstanding.”

Steve held an array of leadership positions after a career in the U. S. Navy, including Director of Human Resources, Organizational and Leadership Development. He created and led the Training & Development function at Legoland California. Steve also served as the HR Training Manager for Quintiles Pacific (world’s largest contract research organization) where his work was the foundation for what became Quintiles University.  Steve also held the position of VP of Training with the Scripps Center for Quality Management, where he co-developed a violence prevention & management system and a train-the-trainer program, while working with organizations on the development of Crisis Management and Threat Assessment Teams. Steve was also a Site Manager and HR Generalist with Lockheed Martin.   A few examples of the companies where Steve has been a consultant, coach and trainer include Apple, Qualcomm, American Express, Facebook, VISA, Charles Schwab, Dell, Genentech, CBS, SAP, Nestle, Honda, Department of the Navy, Jewish Family Services, Cal State, County and Port of SD.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science degree in Human Resources Management with an emphasis in training and development.  He is “certified-for-life” as a Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) by HRCI. He also holds the following certifications: Certified EQ-I 2.0 Emotional Intelligence Assessor (Individual, Team, Leadership, and 360), Certified DDI Trainer, Certified DISC Assessor, Certified Gallup Interviewer and Assessor, Certified Thomas-Kilman Conflict Mode Instrument Facilitator, and Certified Pulse-Point Leadership Profile Assessor. He is an Association for Training & Development member and Chapter Mentor. He is a former Board Member and VP of Membership for San Diego SHRM.  Steve is a former Adjunct Professor for Strategic Planning in Chapman University’s  HR Management Graduate Degree Program and the SHRM Certification Program, a Training Consultant for San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies and for Cal State University at San Marcos, a former Cohort Facilitator for University of San Diego’s Graduate Program in Executive Leadership,  a former Senior Training Consultant for the Nonprofit Management Solutions Training Institute, and a Senior Consulting Partner for The Ken Blanchard Companies.
